Punkt Convent
In 1298, the Order of the Repenting Ladies was relocated from Röbel to Malchow. The convent buildings were built over a long period of time. After Reformation, the convent was turned into a home for gentlewomen run by nuns. Abbess died in 1972, aged 95. The old cloister can still be visited today.

Johann Engel was chef in the home for gentlewomen between 1787 and 1819. During this period he laid out a garden. The garden was finished in 1855/56. To this day, Engel's Garden invites the residents of Malchow and guests for a stay.

Before the Convent Church was built between 1844 and 1849, there was only a small church in the convent area. In 1888, the Convent Church burnt down and was rebuilt from 1888 to 1890. Since 1997, the Town of Malchow owns the church.
Punkt View of the Lake and Convent Church Today, the Convent Church is widely used for concerts. In 1997, the building of a Mecklenburgian Organ Museum was started. Today already, many organs and parts of organs can be seen in the Convent Church

In a special show area of the convent, many artifacts of everyday use from the times of our grandparents and great-grandparents can be seen. They are being be restored with considerable effort

In 1697, during a great fire on the island the Town Hall was completely destroyed as well. In 1821, a new Town Hall was built, which still exists today. In 1877, construction of a county court building started in the neighborhood. This year, the Town Hall will be restored.

The island was connected with the northern bank of Malchow by a wooden bridge.
Punkt Malchow, Mecklenburgian Plain of Lakes, Mueritz  A lift bridge followed between 1845 and 1863. In 1863/64, a wooden swing bridge was made. Since 1911, an iron swing bridge is a real attraction for visitors every hour on the hour
P_sehens.gif (999 Byte) East Germany Museum In 1998, works to build a GDR-Museum started in the Old Cinema in the Kirchenstrasse. Visitors are welcome since October 1999.

In 1871, the foundation stone was laid for the Town church, and in 1873 already the church was consecrated. The original Town Church was situated on the island, where the County Court is located today. A great fire destroyed this church in 1697.

In the old days, a lot of mills could be found around Malchow. Only two of them still exist today. The mill situated in Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse was reopened during the Mills Festival, which now takes place every year on Whitsun Monday. The second mill was restored in 1999.

What is known as "Werleburg" today was opened in 1902 as hotel "Fuerst Bluecher". The building became dilapidated more and more in GDR times. Now, the Town of Malchow bought the building and started restoration. Since April 17th, 1999, "Werleburg" is open for all guests. You will find there the library, the Mueritz County Music School and the Society for Culture and Sports with tourist's services office. Many events and concerts take place in the great hall of the "Werleburg"

The oldest Natural History Museum of Mecklenburg-West-Pomerania was founded in 1866. It houses a vast collection on the development of the landscape and on the natural history of the Mueritz region. The cold water aquarium with its 25.000 litres of water, the largest of its kind in Germany, is an attraction for visitors both old and young.

This Museum provides information on the development of agriculture and on the life in the countryside in Mecklenburg. Visitors can see a manor house typical for Mecklenburg with its houses for day labourers and agricultural workers as well as a village school from around 1910. A Dutch Windmill and numerous other exhibits allow an insight into the technical development of agricultural production.

The picture of the Nature Reserve is shaped by 60 lakes, by the rivers Nebel and Mildenitz as well as by large forests.
This area is the habitat of numerous sea birds, among them the sea eagle and the otter
At Lake Plauer See, old peat bogs can be found, which are drying up slowly. Here, the friend of nature has the opportunity to observe the phases of the process of drying up from the open water to bog up to the bog forest with its typical plants and animals.

The Bison Enclosure on the Damerower Werder, South of Jabel, is a special attraction inside the Nature Reserve Nossentiner-Schwinzer Heide.
