Fritz-Reuter-
Literture Museum
The Fritz Reuter Literary Museum is housed in the former town hall dating from 1788 in the market place. There are 13 rooms with a large collection of manuscripts and handwritten notes by the writer as well as old documents and a library with Low German literature.
Reuter Memorial The memorial was personally unveiled by the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin in 1911. It portrays Fritz Reuter reflecting in an armchair with an open book in his lap. The bronze memorial stands in front of the town hall and was made by the sculptor Wilhelm Wandschneider who came from neighbouring Plau am See.
Château Work began on the baroque chateau in the 17th. century on the site of the old castle.
The chateau acquired its present form with 11 turnings and short side wings in 1740. A circular stairwell was added to the east corner of the building in 1890.
Town Church The brick built baroque church with a two storey inner mezzanine was completed in 1782. The ornately carved Renaisssance pulpit is worth seeing.
Excursions:
The Ivenack Oaks Ivenack is a tiny place 5 km north of Stavenhagen, noted in the region for its 1000 year old oaks. The mighty trees stand in a game reserve with footpaths. The largest tree has a circumference of some 11 m. (guides available at the Fritz Reuter Literature Museum)
Müritz-National Park The Müritz, the largest lake in Germany, and a hundred more lakes dominate the landscape with large tracts of woodland in this 310 km² national park. Ancient woodland conditions prevail here in the self sown beech, oak and conifer woods, with a rich variety of native flora and fauna such as black storks, cranes, cormorants, various deer and wild swine. The red deer make an impressive noise when they begin to bellow in late summer. The ospreys are a rare and special sight. there are 360 km. of signed footpaths, coach and cycle paths with some fine views.
Monastery and Chateau

Built by Cistercian monks in the 13th. century, it was converted to a chateau in the 16th. century. There are extensive remains of the monastery in the north wing.
Heinrich-Schliemann-
Museum

D-17219 Ankershagen
Heinrich Schliemann (1822-1890), the world famous discoverer of Troy and the royal tombs at Mycenae, spent part of his early life in Ankershagen (Müritz district). The museum is dedicated to the life and work of the great archaeologist.
