Artists’ colony Ahrenshoop |
Several artists discovered the
individual and idyllic landscape around Ahrenshoop in the later decades
of the 19th century and founded an artists' colony there. Today, the houses of these artists are under preservation orders. |

"Artists’ cabins" Ahrenshoop | The painters Paul Mueller-Kaempff, Theobald Schorn und Fritz Wachenhusen had the "artists’ cabins" built in the style of fishermen’s huts with thatched roofs in1909. The resulting artistic landscape is still being used to full effect by artists from Ahrenshoop and the rest of the country right up to the present day. |

"Ahrenshooper Holz" | The Ahrenshooper Holz Nature Reserve covers 50 hectares and lies north east of the Baltic resort. Holly trees grow to a height of 4m. in the 400 year old forest. |

"Darsser
Ort" Lighthouse near Prerow |
The 35 m tall "Darsser Ort" Lighthouse stands
at the northernmost end of the Darss Forest and was commissioned
in 1848. The tower houses a permanent exhibition from the Deutsches Meeresmusum and a café. |

Darss-Museum in Prerow |
The Darss-Museum is the
regional heritage museum of the Fischland-Darss-Zingst
peninsula. The exhibition includes many interesting items from the history and culture of Prerow and the Geology, flora and fauna of Darss. |

Seaman’s Church near Prerow |
The Seaman’s Church was built between 1726 and 1728. It houses a collection of model ships on the walls which were donated as votive gifts. |

"Darsser Urwald" and Weststrand |
The Darss peninsula is for the main part covered by the singularly beautiful and virtually undisturbed Darsser Forest with an area of some 4700 hectares. Prerow und Born lie in the very near vicinity and the area is served by a 50km long network of trails for riding, cycling, walking or coaching. The forest meets the romantic wind and wave swept west beach. The north point, with its lighthouse, is named "Darsser Ort" and is a popular place for excursions. |

The Captains’ Houses | Among the other attractions the handsome and well preserved captains’ houses with their typical Dutch gable roofs will interest visitors to Wustrow and Zingst. Many sea captains and seamen lived in these parts in the heyday of sailing ships (around 1880). |

National Park "Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft" | The 805 km²
National Park is the largest in the new states. It takes in a vast natural coastal landscape including the Darss peninsula and Zingst, sprawling fenland and even parts of West Ruegen and the island of Hiddensee. The greater part of the park, some 687 km² is marshland. Typical elements of the Baltic coastal landscape, such as steep and flat coastline, sandbars, coves, shallows, mudflats, dunes and beaches with their typical flora and fauna, can all be found in close proximity to each other there. Every year in autumn, parts of the park become the largest resting place for migrating cranes in Europe. |

Rhododendron

The park was laid out between
1955 and 1961. It covers 4,5 hectares and is one of the largest of its
kind. The 50 rhododendron species, some of them 10 meters tall, are an unforgettable sight when in bloom. The annual rhododendron-festival takes place one week after Whitsunday. |
