The red brick Water Tower of Demmin was erected about 100 years ago. Today you will find an observatory with planetarium in the tower.

Built in 1893, it is one of the largest and most interesting industrial buildings in North Germany and also one of the most attractive and modern shopping and business centres in Grevesmuehlen.

From the former Friedrich-Franz Railway, it is well worth seeing as a technical monument. It is the oldest functioning wide gauge steam engine (built in 1898) on the German Rail. Thanks to the commitment of the "Mecklenburgische Eisenbahnfreunde" Society in Schwerin the "Iron Horse " still chugs along pulling historic wagons on special excursions.

In the Castle garden, it belongs to the Heritage Museum. It is the only fully functional mill of its kind in Germany. Visitors can watch as it fashions pedestals for statues etc. from raw boulders.

The "Rasende Roland"
A narrow gauge railway dating from the turn of the century; it is a tourist attraction on the Isle of Ruegen. It has connected the town of Putbus with the Baltic resorts since 1895.

1886 saw the first 5,6 km. long spur of the oldest narrow gauge railway on the Baltic coast. It ran from Bad Doberan to the Baltic resort of Heiligendamm, the "white town by the sea ". It took 4 weeks to complete and put into regular service. The track is 900 mm. wide.
P_sehens.gif (999 Byte) Isle of Ruegen Cape Arkona Lighthouse
Commissioned in 1826/27, it is the senior among lighthouses on the Baltic coast. It was designed and built in brick by Karl Friedrich Schinkel and stands 20 m high on the northernmost point on the Isle of Ruegen.

Koserow Salting Huts
Scheduled buildings on the Isle of Usedom, they are typical examples of maritime building along the coast. They have survived from the heyday of the herring fisheries in the mid 19th. century when they served as salt. They came under official control in the herring season when the fish were salted an packed.

Built in 1883, it is now a technical monument with grinding chamber and a mighty star wheel. The Mill Museum also has information on the other 5 preserved mills belonging to the museum complex.

The water tower was finished in 1913. Restored outside, the interior of the water tower presents a technical document which we want to show to our visitors in the coming years. We are also thinking about selling the tower to be used as a house of residence or an atelier.

Travellers approaching Hagenow from Schwerin will see, right behind the forest, the symbol of our town, the water-tower.
The water-tower, built between 1905 an1908, is a brick building with windows in Gothic style. In 1938, the top was capped a little following orders by the German Airforce.
