in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern boasts an impressive collection of ancient monuments. They are witness to the settlements of the region since the end of the Ice Age. Those on land and in water include earlier trading posts, settlements, fortifications, burial sites and centres of culture.
Still to be seen today are the especially impressive megalithic graves from the Stone Age, Bronze Age barrows and earthworks.
The monuments are protected sites and offer interested visitors an insight into the history and lifestyle of our ancestors as well as the opportunity to enjoy nature.

On the B 105, east of Wismar
Slavic castle site on the outskirts of Neuburg, built over in mediaeval times.
En route to Baebelin, 13 Bronze Age barrows under groves of trees.
23972 Dorf Mecklenburg
On the B106, near the Mecklenburg Mill
Slavic citadel from the 10th.century. The castle lent its name to the state of Mecklenburg.

On the B 105, east of Grevesmuehlen
mpressive early Stone Age megalith graves in the Everstorfer Forest.
There is also an expiatory stone in Everstorf Signposted footpath.
19406 Groß Görnow
near Sternberg
10th. century Slavic elevated castle near Groß Gornow, in the upper part of the Warnow Dales.
There is a series of early Stone Age burial sites on the fringe of Klein Gornow. Nearby is the Sagsdorfer Bridge, on which the introduction of the Reformation in Mecklenburg was signed in 1549.

Open air archaeological museum, unique in North Germany. A reconstruction of an old Slavic temple site from the 10th. century and the complete layout of a Slavic lowland castle with a settlement and ritual site outside, offering a near authentic potrayal of the daily life of the Slavs.

Early Stone Age barrow "Hohe Nonne" (in the Tarnow Forest) and several Bronze Age barrows in the vicinity.

In the Serrahn, Kuchelmiß und Hinzenhagen region there is an extensive Bronze Age barrow complex.

The remains of a large Slavic castle site directly on the banks of the Warnow. The Obotrite ruler, Niklot was killed before the gates of the castle in 1160. The castle played a prominent role in the battles between the Obotrites and the Saxon conquerors.

on the road from Warin to Buetzow
There are two megalith graves between Qualitz and Katelbogen. In the lowland nearby are the largest Early Stone Age burial sites in Mecklenburg.

7th. century elevated Slavic fortifications.

In the highland woods near Boitin is a cluster of three cromlechs composed of imposing stone blocks. An urn burial from the early Germanic era can be seen in one of the circles.

Several barrow sites in Recknitztal near Liepen. There is a footpath from here to Lieper Burg, a Slavic earthwork.

In the vicinity is the site of a Scandinavian trading post. Burial sites are laid out in the form of Viking ships.
17194 Vollrathsruhe Bronze Age barrow west of Vollrathsruhe.
17192 Waren The museum in Waren offers further information on its exhibition of early and ancient history of the lakeland regions.
17179 Behren - Luebchin
near Bad Suelze
Slavic castle site built by Circipanians in the 11th./12th. century. The site was destroyed in 1117 by the Danish king Waldemar.
17166 Teterow
on the B 104, direction Rostock
Slavic earthwork island, built in the 9th century. The site was a focal point for the Circipanian tribes.
The island can be reached by way of the chain ferry. (Guesthouse Wendenkrug)

In the castle gardens there is a megalith grave from the Spherical Amphora Culture. There is also a fortification site nearby, dating back to the transitional phase between the Bronze Age and the Iron Age.

Near the approaches to the region (from the direction of Demmin) there are three Stone age burial sites from the Funnel Urn Culture.

In the vicinity of the village there are two Slavic fortification sites:
The 8th. century castle site "Alte Stadt" and the lowland castle "Alte Schanze" with walls about 15m. high.

Impressive megalithic burial sites near Sassen (Poggendorfer Forest) und Pustow; including one with a stone cover weighing some 19 tonnes.
17109 Demmin Slavic castle complex (lowland castle), surrounded by hefty earthworks on the confluence of the Peene and Tollense rivers. Henry the Lion destroyed this castle in 1164.
Isle of Ruegen Almost all of the historic island remains are to be found on the Isle of Ruegen.
