Chateau Frederician Rococo began evolving with the acquisition in 1734 of the supremacy by the Prussian King Frederic Wilhelm I (1688-1740), and the subsequent rebuilding and new erections carried out on the plain Renaissance buildings (built after 1566) to transform it into the residence. The Unit Castle Rheinberg and Grounds provided considerable impulses for buildings and gardens in Berlin and Potsdam Sanssouci. |

Chateau The Chateau in Guestrow is the largest and one of the few remaining representative Renaissance buildings in North Germany. Duke Ulrich of Mecklenburg had a new extension built which was planned as a house with four wings. Brandin and Parr, who stemmed from an Italian master builder family, worked on the west and south wings from 1558 to 1599 to give the house its present form. |

It was a frontier post to Mecklenburg and was altered to a heavy fortification but it lost importance later and was left to fall into decay. The surrounding park is laid out in English garden style after a design by the famous landscape gardener Peter Joseph Lenné. |

Hotel Spyker Completed at the end of the 16th. century, it is an impressive brick structure with a facade flanked by two domed towers facing onto the lake. It has been altered several times and served as a retirement residence for the Swedish Marshall Carl Gustav Wrangel. Wrangel left ornate stucco ceilings inside, some of them feature the four seasons. It is nowadays serving as a hotel and guests in the restaurant can enjoy the old chateau atmosphere. |

Granitz Hunting Lodge Stands on the highest point on Ruegen, the 107 m high Tempelberg near the resort Binz. Building of the picturesque neo Gothic style brick house was begun in 1836 by order of Wilhelm Malte I. of Putbus. It is a magnet to tourists who flock to the lookout tower in the courtyard, built in 1844 on a design by Schinkel. Visitors can climb the cast iron spiral staircase to the 38 m. high lookout platform and enjoy the superb view over the Isle of Ruegen. |

Doemitz Citadel Begun as a castle in Doemitz in the 13th century, it became the foundation for the fortification on the Elbe. The Italian castle builder Francesco a Bornau took seven years beginning 1588 to complete the massive pentagonal citadel with its bastions and casemates. It was altered several times over the ensuing centuries and served as a penitentiary in the 18th. and 19th centuries. Fritz Reuter, The best known of the Low German writers, served the last year of his sentence there from 1839 to 1840. |
