Museum Villa Irmgard The Russian writer Maxim Gorki stayed here in 1922 to convalesce after a lung infection. The museum houses reminders of him and other prominent visitors. The original decor from this time has been partially preserved. There is also a history of the resort. |

Niemeyer-Holstein Studio The studio of painter Otto Niemeyer-Holstein (1896-1984) in "Luettenort" houses an exhibition of his life and work. He lived on the island for 50 years. |

Historic and
Technical Information Centre The exhibition centre chronicles the development of the first ballistic missiles, the first launch of a rocket into space and the military use of the research. 18.000 people worked in the research and development facility, formerly the largest in the world. The museum chronicles the development of the "Vergeltungswaffe V2", the forerunner of the modern payload rocket. There are also documents reminding of the people who were forced to work in Peenemuende such as aliens and concentration camp inmates who perished during the development, building and deployment of this weapons system. |

Koserow Salt Houses These protected buildings in Koserow are a typical example of the maritime buildings around the coast. The houses survive from the heyday of the herring fishery in the mid 19th. century. They served then as salt stores. Herrings were salted and packed there under state supervision during the herring season. |

Heritage Museum The gateway of the small town is the only one remaining in region. The quadrangular brick construction has survived from 1450. The Heritage Museum is in the tower and houses exhibits of traditional trades and industries in the area. |

Mönchgut Museums There are four museums in the old farming, fishing and seaside resort of Goehren. The Heritage Museum and the Museumshof belong to a collection of 16th. century buildings. Visitors can see much of interest about fishery, seafaring, piloting and agriculture as well as the lifestyle of the islanders. The museum ship "MS LUISE" and the school museum at Middenhagen are also worth visiting. |

Railway Museum The covered Railway and Technology Museum houses 30 locomotives in a 400 m² hall. There are also old fire tenders, tankers and buses. The Dennis Pumper and a type 23 are two of the rarities on show there. |

Gerhart Hauptmann Memorial The writer lived in "Seedorn" house in Vitte from 1930 until his death in 1946. Five of its rooms have been preserved with their original furnishings and personal effects as a reminder of his lifes work and his time on the island. |
