A well-known landmark of the Isle of Ruegen is the Chalk Coast in the National Park Jasmund. The partly more than 100 m high Chalk cliffs, the most popular are the Koenigsstuhl and the Wissower Klinken, offer a fascinating view from the land as well as from the water. The popular painter Caspar David Friedrich perpetuated the Chalk cliffs on his romantic picture "Kreidefelsen auf Ruegen" (Chalk cliffs at Ruegen) (at 1818). |
