The Hagenow Church
The town of Hagenow, as well as Hagenow-Heide and the Villages of Granzin, Scharbow, Ziel, Sudendorf, Toddin, Gramnitz, Pätow and Steegen constitute the community from which the Parish of the Lutherian Church of Hagenow, a municipality counting around 3000 inhabitants, draws its members.
The local centre is the Church built in the years 1875 to 1879 in Neo-gothic style and which had a Gothic as well as a Roman predecessor. Rests of the latter remained conserved in the lower part of the tower. This can be seen by looking at the format of the convent, the bricks as well as the walls are made out of rocks.
Anyone stepping into the church for the first time will be surprised to find so little of the Neo-Gothic appearance. A fungus attack in the 70ies made re-building necessary and this was made from a practical point of view.

The church of Hagenow

The Church room per se was originally a lot smaller but thanks to the possibility of opening the glass doors, it can be made larger. Community rooms, offices and living quarters for staff were built so that the church is filled with life not just at 10:00 o’clock, but at all times.
The oldest piece of furniture are roman baptismal fonts which were found during building works in the foundations and were probably in use until the church was torn down. Above the baptismal fonts hangs the twenty-armed brass chandelier donated in 1742 by Gundlach of Toddin, the owner of a glass factory.
Since 1994, there is a Nußbuck-Organ with 23 registers in the church. It is worth mentioning the clock of the church tower with its mechanical clockwork dated 1879 which, including the clockwork and chime, has been functioning again since the first of Advent 1998.

In the rooms of the church, groups of all ages and of all interest meet: the crazy box, the Christian Teaching, confirmation groups, bands playing guitar, flute and trumpet, the choir, the congregation of Lutherian and Catholic singers, the trombone bands, senior citizen’s and self-help groups of the blue cross. Concerts and exhibitions take place regularly.
