Waren (Mueritz) is the centre of the Mecklenburg Lake District.
You can reach Waren on the waterways from Hamburg over the Mueritz-Elde Waterway and from Berlin over the Mueritz-Havel Waterway.
The city lies on the north bank of the Mueritz with 117 km² of water. To the east of the Mueritz lies the largest forest and national park in Germany with 400 km. of charming walks.
The Sankt Marien Church (dating from the 13./14th. century) and Georgen Church (13th. century) dominate the city skyline. The historic town centre is being completely reconstructed. Points of interest in the town include the Mueritzeum with its zoo gardens and the Mueritz Aquarium.
The many lakes, the attractive countryside, the therapeutic climate and the nearby thermal mineral spa mean that Waren (Mueritz) has a guaranteed future as a resort for rest and recreation.
