Arms of the town of Teterow

Teterow – Here you stand at the centre of attention .... ... and indeed: locals, holiday-makers and guests learned to enjoy the advantages of being at the geographic centre of Mecklenburg-West-Pomerania. No matter if you arrive by train or by car, the easily accessed location brings every point within direct reach. In only two hour’s drive in direction of the South and you reach the cosmopolitan metropolis of Berlin. Should you prefer the refreshing waves of the Baltic Sea, then you should drive towards the North. After less than one hour’s drive, you will have reached your goal.
Teterow in the Mecklenburgian Switzerland Yet this is not all what the town and its surroundings have in store for you. Teterow (this Slavonic name means: the capercaillies’ [place]) and was conferred town privileges in 1235. The town centre, dating from the middle ages remained conserved in its original structure up until now.
It is "surrounded " by the ring road which once formed a part of the town fortifications. The most important historic buildings are standing within this circle in the shape of the Town Hall, the Gothic Town Gates, and the St Peter-and-Paul’s Church and the "Mills" (Muehlenviertel) as well as the fire station water sprinkling house. Boathouses by lake Teterower See A little outside, on Lake ‘Teterower See’, a little jewel awaits you. In the lake, on the Island of Burgwallinsel, there is a previous Slavonic settlement. You can reach it by ferry. There, various sports’ facilities as well as the Hotel "Landhaus am See" invite for a restoring trip.
With the 'Mountain Rink' (Bergring) – Europe’s most beautiful grass racing course – Teterow has a further rarity to offer. Every year, when the spring roses are in blooms, thousands of sport’s enthusiasts pout into the rink in order to experience exiting races. But the town was not rendered famous only by the mountain rink and its situation at the hub of happenings. Teterow in the Mecklenburgian Switzerland
Teterow in the Mecklenburgian Switzerland Teterow is also the "Schilda des Nordens" as they say in Lower German. A week end before Whitsun you are reminded of the old tricks of our Altvorders (ancestors) by a traditional pike festival. Make sure that you, too, are there when young and old meet on the fair square to hear the funny tricks and enjoy the colorful program and have plenty of fun.
Apart from the manifold restoring possibilities it offers, the town developed in recent years into an interesting residential and economic area. For further information and queries, the tourist information office is at your disposal. Teterow in the Mecklenburgian Switzerland
