The Jasmund National Park lies on the east coast of the Isle of Ruegen between Lohme and Sassnitz. The topography of the National Park area is characterised by a chalk rift created by a subterranean upheaval in the Ice Age. The picturesque 120 m. high chalk cliffs with the imposing Koenigsstuhl and the "Wissower Klinken" are landmarks on Ruegen. You can reach and enjoy the fine spectacle of the cliffs on the walk from Lohme to Sassnitz or on a pleasure cruise.
The National Park has the most diverse forms of woodland with their typical flora and fauna. The woods around Kuestenhaengen are especially varied and interesting. You can find quite rare tree species here, such as wild pear, wild apple, yew and also ivies.

The landscape of the steeply inclined hinterland of the chalk coast, the Stubnitz, is dominated by undisturbed beech woods.
Ash and alder flourish in the wetlands where the springs and brooks have their sources. Other moisture loving plants such as sedge, marsh marigolds and herbs also find their ideal conditions there. Pure alder stands have also formed in massive peat bogs around these fresh water spings. Sphagnum moss and cotton grass predominate along with droseras and other calcifuges in the treeless marginal peat bogs. Ash, elm, maple, sedges. giant horsetail and mosses flourish in the shady wooded hollows.
