Nature, undisturbed, harmonious and ever changing with sweeping heaths, forests, fenland, peat bogs, gentle slopes, rivers and lakes.
Ueckermuende
, the most north-easterly of Germany’s ports, is the embarkation point for passenger ships to the Isle of Usedom and Poland.
The chateau was the former residence of the Pomeranian Dukes; nowadays it houses the city’s Haffmuseum. A visit to the zoo with its "Haus des Gastes" can be recommended. The countryside is charming around the town of
Eggesin (with its water walks and bowers), Pasewalk (with its interesting historic buildings) and Straßburg on the fringe of the "Brohmer Berge" nature reserve. Here you can see the internationally known "Galenbecker See" bird sanctuary. Nature lovers will be thrilled by the other nature reserves too, such as the Ahlbecker Seegrund, the Altwarper inland dunes or Greater Koblentz Lake, where a wide variety of flora and fauna flourishes. Otters, Sea eagles, cranes, white storks and red and roe deer are all to be found there.
The Stettiner Haff is popular for water sports. It is separated from the Baltic Sea by the Isle of Usedom, the marshes and shallows. There is a well signposted cycling and walking network several hundred kilometres long and many riding schools for those seeking an active holiday
.
