According to an ancient
saga, a hunter from Turloff once shot a deer and followed the trace with
his hunting dog. The search led him through green meadows and pine
forest. Tall oak trees surrounded the forest. After about 2.5
kilometers, he finally came to the spot where the deer had gone down and
he encouraged his dog to bark by calling out: "da bell, da
bell". The saga mentions that to the time of the Wenden the word
for oak was Dab or Dabele.
Dabel was first documented in 1262. According to the document, Johann of
Mecklenburg made a gift of 6 Hufen of land, from the estate of Friedrich
Flotow in Dabel, to the convent in Dobbertin. |
