| Gadebusch - a town with about 6100 residents, is nestled between pictures meadows and forest land by the low-lying riverbanks of the Radegast. The State Capital Schwerin, the Hanse Cities Luebeck and Wismar as well as the old official bishop's seat of Ratzeburg are all fast and easy to reach. |
|
Gadebusch is known as the northern gate to the Biosphere Reserve Schaalsee, a region with unmistakable flora and fauna that captures the interest of any scenery lover. The Heritage Museum in town, located in the utility buildings of the Renaissance-castle and the smokehouse Moellin (3,5 kilometers away) are well-known cultural sights in the entire region of Northwest Mecklenburg. |
| The location of the town on a junction of
important trade routes positively influenced the town's historical
development. Wars (Northern War), epidemics, and town fires in the 17th and 18th century temporarily ended the economical flourishing of the town. The annual Coin Festival still reminds visitors of the aristocratic coinage place that was operating in Gadebusch from 1542 up to the beginning of the 17th century. |

The connection of the town to the railway at the end of the19th century (1897) was a new beginning for the town's economical development. |
|
Over the last few years, the town finished some major projects that are important for the town's infrastructure, e.g. a new administration building near the historic Town Hall, a new High School, and a bypass (Federal Road 104 Schwerin - Luebeck) to relief traffic. |
|
Gadebusch maintains partnerships with the town Trittau in the State of Schleswig-Holstein and St. Germain du Puy near Bourges/ France. In May of 2000 the town singed a partnership contract with the Community of Åmål in Sweden. |
