Cycling round the Baltic Sea resort Rerik - Vacation, travelling and recreation at the Baltic coast

Description of the trip

A bicycle trip like this one lets you experience the beauties of the local surroundings in their whole bandwidth. Beach and water just as the breadth of the landscape with its hills and fields. It is conceived as a day-trip with a length of 25 km.

From Rerik, the ride goes in direction Meschendorf until Kuehlungsborn-Ost, which guarantees undisturbed cycling.
Before Meschendorf, the road branches off on the right to Mechelsdorf. A ride to Meschendorf directly along the beach to Kuehlungsborn-West is not allowed in order to avoid disturbances to this ecologically delicate nature protection area. The paths in this region are also not suited to riding bicycles. From Mechelsdorf over Kaegsdorf to Kuehlungsborn-West, the landscape can be appreciated from the asphalt bicycle-and-pedestrian-lane in peace and quiet.

In Kaegsdorf, it is possible to make a detour to the beach with its typical dune landscape and naturally, there, there is the possibility to take a cooling sea bath.

The bicycle lane terminates in Kuehlungsborn-West. Through the town, one is quickly on the road called "Ostseeallee" which runs parallel to the beach promenade. The hotels built in spa architectural, offering vacancies and the beds-and-breakfasts along the "Ostseeallee", starting at the art gallery and the sea-water swimming pool is certainly not less interesting than the view from the promenade looking onto beach life immediately near. The distance between Kuehlungsborn-West and Kuehlungsborn-Ost is of around 3 km. On the way, there are a lot of opportunities to take refreshments and food. For the use of the beach on this stretch, there is, however, a beach fee to be paid.
From the square before the bridge in Kuehlungsborn-Ost, you then use the "Strandstrasse", which is the main shopping and traffic hub of this area of the town.On that road, you cross the whole town, riding past an a road going off at the "Molli"-train station, cross at the level-crossing and continue riding in a straight line on the edge of a paved street until on the right of the newly improved "Gruene Weg" branches off. On the bicycle lane ‘accompanying’ the road, you reach the Kuehlungsborn-Neubukow-Road by going in the direction of Kuehlungsborn.

Go onto that road by turning left in the direction of Barstorf. There, it is worth making a detour to a 120-year-old lighthouse still in service today. From its height you can enjoy a wonderful panorama all around. When the sight is clear, you can make out the salt lagoon in south-western direction, on the north-western horizon, the coast of Fehmarn and in the East, the buildings of Rostock and the Town of Warnemuende.
From the public house "Zum Leuchtturm" (The Lighthouse Inn) you come onto the road where the bicycle lane forks in the directions of Mechelsdorf, stay on the lane and you reach Mechelsdorf and then riding further leads you to the Mechendorf road, and to Rerik.
