Large sections
of the Darss peninsula are covered with the uniquely beautiful Darss primeval
forest whose original state remained almost unaffected.
The 4700 hectares large forest, in whose direct proximity the towns of Prerow
and Born are situated, is criss-crossed by a 50 km long network of tracks
for hiking, cycling, riding, and for horse-drawn carriages.
It is connected, in the west, by the wild-romantic West-Beach,
marked by wind and waves.
The northernmost point,
called "Darsser Ort", with the lighthouse is a
popular destination for excursions. Its tower, 35 m high, and completed in 1884 counts
among the oldest on the Baltic Sea coast.
