Surrounded by numerous lakes, charming forests and amidst a diverse landscape of meadows and fields, Goldberg is situated in the western part of the Mecklenburgian Lake District. The town was founded in 1248 and has approximately 5,000 inhabitants today.
Far away from the hustle and bustle, Goldberg is the almost ideal setting for recreation, catering especially for nature lovers and
hiking enthusiasts. Large areas of our region are part of the Nature park Nossentiner/ Schwinzer Heath Nature Park, covering over 320 sq.kilometres with more than half of it (55 %) comprising woodland. There are 12 marked routes for hikers to choose from and experience the Schwinzer Heath with its tiny villages hidden in the woods. If you are lucky, you can catch sight of various local fauna. This region is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts, anglers and horse-riders.
An outing to the
Langhägener Seewiesen meadows is worthwhile at any time of the year. This is a renaturalized wetland biotope, where you can watch hundreds of cranes in their sleeping grounds from September till November.
And if the weather doesn't cooperate, your whole family could spend a few hours in the Goldberg Museum, whose comprehensive collections illustrate the historical development of the town and local handicraft as well as the flora of the region.
The Administration and Visitor Center for the Nossentiner/ Schwinzer Heath Nature Park is situated close to the intersection of the B 103 and B 192 trunk roads. An informative exhibition on the Nature Park can be found here. It is open to visitors daily from 8 am to 8 pm from June to September, during the other months on weekdays only from 8 am to 4 pm.
A visit to the small town of
Dobbertin with its well-preserved monastery and the adjacent park is a special experience.
This region offers a variety of
entertainment, cultural, historical and sporting events, complementing the beauty of the unspoilt countryside
We are looking forward to welcoming you.
