Dobbertin, located in the
heart of the largest Nature Park of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Nossentiner/Schwinzer
Heide,
is surrounded by forests, an abundance of larger and smaller lakes,
brooks, moors and heathland.
The extensive natural forest and heath areas, as well as the
glacial valley formed by the Mildenitz River, can be explored
along signposted trails on horseback, by
bike or on foot .
With its half-timbered
houses, which are under a special preservation order, the
farmhouses and the monastery, the townscape of Dobbertin conveys
an atmosphere of harmony and tranquillity. |
The well-preserved Benedictine-monastery,
dating back to about 1220, is a very special attraction. It is one
of the most famous Christian foundations in the history of
Mecklenburg. Therefore, guided tours are especially
recommended. Located on a peninsula close by, the park with its
dendrological rarities invites one to stay a while.
A camp-site, proud of its
international reputation, is situated in one of the picturesque
bays of the lake.
Most parts of Lake
Dobbertin are navigable and you can go on a cruise on the motor
vessel "MS
Condor". If you are
lucky, you can catch sight of a kingfisher and watch cormorants
fishing.
To guests and holidaymakers this is a perfect setting for
recreation and relaxation - to locals it is home. |
