| The idyllic small town of Goldberg
is located on the shores of Lake Goldberg, on the outskirts of the "Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heath" Nature
Park, in the very heart of
Mecklenburg. The town is surrounded by picturesque lakeland scenery with lovely beech and
pine woods and many acres of junipers and heather. The medieval half-timbered houses, the town hall with its turrets and garret roof, the Gothic brick church founded in the 14th century, the remains of a castle in today's office block and a former water mill from the 18th century, where the Museum of Local History is now housed, are all well worth seeing. On the southern shore of Lake Goldberg visitors can see one of the largest Dutch windmills in Mecklenburg. A few miles to the north-west, the small town of Dobbertin is situated on Lake Dobbertin and boasts a magnificent monastery. The twin spires of its church, designed by famous master builder Karl Frederick Schinkel, are unique in Mecklenburg. Goldberg and its surroundings offer their guests a wide range of sporting and entertainment programmes, various water-based activities on the lakeshores, trails for horse-riding, cycling and hiking as well as expert guided bird-watching tours to spy waterfowl and the rare sea eagle and osprey. What better way to guarantee the perfect active recreation in the tourist region of the "Schwinzer Heath. |
