Roebel/Mueritz offers idyllic scenery, history, pure nature, and a wide spectrum of events on, at, and around the largest lake in Germany. A picturesque little harbor to the side of the "small ocean" (Slavic Morze) is the port for this ancient Slavic-German town of fishermen and peasants. The view from the tower of the town-church still shows the typical two-part-division of old towns and provides an excellent example of the history of settlement in Mecklenburg. |

Friedrich Barbarossa (1179) and a Pop's edict (1252) were the grounds for the border between the dioceses Havelberg and Schwerin, which ran right through the town of Alt-Röbel. To this day, the old and new part of town rival with one another because of this historic separation of the two church-communities. |

With the construction of the Altstaedter Marienkirche around 1235, architecture started to adapt to the Roman-Gothic building style. A most likely wooden church was probably standing there as part of the Slavic settlement which was destroyed before 1180. Plottim, the town preceding Roebel, must have played a tremendously important role in culture and trade for the settlement. |
|
Fire destroyed the town a few times, but the structure of streets and partly preserved rampart in the new part of Roebel still represent medieval holism, in contrast to the old part of town. |

Repainted half-timbered houses, parks and gardens as well as one of the most beautiful promenades in the province show the friendly, colorful face of the town and the surrounding, hilly landscape in the lake territory of Mecklenburg. |
| Roebel does not only offer fun and recreation at the leisure center Mueritz Therme, but also presents hospitality in well-managed hotels, restaurants, and private accommodations. | ![]() |
