| The picturesque little town
of Malchow captivates the visitor by its unmistakable flair. Nestled
between hills, forests and water, it lies in the middle of a contrasting
landscape of lakes: the lake territory of Mecklenburg – between Lake
Mueritz and Lake ‘Plauer See’, on the shores of Lake ‘Malchower
See’ |
 |
The old town center is
situated on an island and is accessible over an earth dyke (filled in
1846) and a turning bridge. Malchow is a small farm holding town and was
later influenced and renown by the drapery maker trade. Now it is trying
to attain the rank of health spa. |
| Schwerin was conferred town
privileges in1235. Together with the local Convent / Monastery of
Laschendorf, Biestorf and Lenz, Malchow is long known as a tourist
center. With the ‘Malchower See’- clinic, and the beginning of a
campaign to attain the title of health resort, more and more people
wishing to improve their health find the way into this idyllic little
town. |
 |
 |
Private lodging, small
hotels and guest houses as well as beautiful campgrounds and little
resting camp sites for travelers by boat are available.
And the hospitality is great in Mecklenburg. |
| Mecklenburg offers
opportunities for a variety of leisure activities. For example, hikers
really appreciate the great signposting of the hiking trails.
along the shores and throughout the healthy forests. The area is a
paradise for anybody enjoying water sports. And horse lovers will like
it too. The horse ranches around here provide lodging for horses,
riders, and riders to be. The ranches often have specials on lodging. |
 |
| Anglers find a
paradise waiting for them here and mushroom pickers should not have any
trouble filling their baskets. Photo enthusiasts will find many
inspiring motives in and around Malchow. Travelers interested in the
history will hardly have enough time to satisfy their urge to gain
knowledge. |
Malchow has many cafés and
restaurants. The town offers all services for fishing and water sports.
Visitors can go swimming on open or commercial beaches.
The recreation
center in Roebel (25
km) is a great place for fun at the chillier time of the year. There are
waterside campgrounds and interesting visitor attractions in the
surrounding area. |
 |
Why not book a little
cruise on the lake or go on a day trip to Waren (Mueritz), Plau am See,
Luebz, or Mirow. |
Malchow always holds
changing exhibitions in its historic buildings. There are also a number
of museums to see, e.g. the organ museum. And the two churches
organize concerts regularly.
The town often celebrates traditional and cultural events which attract
visitors from all over. |
