| The town of Dargun lies in a picturesque setting on the Klostersee, one of the dammed lakes created by the Cistercian monks. |

The formerly powerful Cistercian
monastery was later converted to one of the finest Renaissance chateaux
in North Germany and was unfortunately destroyed by fire in 1945. The
romantic ruins and the ancient monastery building are still evocative of
mediaeval times today. |
| It was not only appreciated by the Dukes of Güstrow in their neighbouring residence of Dargun. Local residents and their guests also like visiting the library and museum in the town. Events in the summer season include concerts and exhibitions in the churches and the courtyard. |
| The highland trails of the Mecklenburgische Schweiz on the west banks of the Lake Kummerow and the Trebeltal with its beaver lodges and rare birds are easy to reach from here. |
