| This superb
landscape between the coast and the mainland was thrown up during the
last Ice Age. Barth is a small town lying on the south shore of the
Fischland-Darss-Zingst Peninsula which juts out into the Baltic Sea. The lakes near the coast are ideal for bathing and water sports and the countryside offers fine opportunities for hiking and cycling. |

Barth in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has about 10.000 residents nowadays and lives from commerce from its small trade concerns and service industries. Its proximity to the large ports of Rostock and Stralsund make it ideal for sailing and surfing in the shallows, while boat trips on the Baltic or excursions to the picturesque resorts of Fischland-Darss-Zingst, Hiddensee and Ruegen make Barth a good base not just for water sports but for all kinds of other activities. | |
