| The 37 km² Isle of
Poel lies in the Bay of Wismar and can be reached from Wismar over a
causeway. The Isle of Poel was officially recognised as a resort
in 1997 and as a beach resort in 2005. Kirchdorf, with its idyllic sports boat and fishing harbour, lies at the centre of the island. Poel offers a "Nature Experience" and also a full leisure programme for the active holidaymaker. Swimming, surfing and sailing are the main beach attractions in the summer months while people visit for the walking, peace and quiet and the scenery in the early and late season. The healthy island climate is second to none for rest and recuperation. The fresh Poel air is very beneficial and soothing to chronic skin complaints and can also help to lessen the effects of chronic bronchitis, asthma and general ill health. |
